OUR FEATURED FAMILY OF THE MONTH
WILLARD AND EFFIE LEITCH
Live Oak is pleased to announce that Willard and Effie Leitch have been chosen to be its November FAMILY OF THE MONTH. Pastor Ken is so thrilled to introduce this wonderful couple to everyone. Ken met Willard and Effie 49 years ago, way back when he was a 13 year old preacher boy. Ken preached numerous times during his teen years at the churches where they attended. He also attended high school with their children. Effie was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pineville. Willard was a member of our very own church. Yes, Willard was a member of Live Oak 49 years ago! Ken says that Willard and Effie have always been awesome role models, they have always loved their church, and they have always been supportive of their pastors. What a blessing and encouragement to watch these folks over the years as they have always been so faithful to their Lord.
Willard was born and raised on a farm in Indiana. After being drafted into the Air Force during the Korean War, Willard was based at England Air Force Base here in Alexandria where he spent 3 years. While being in Alexandria, Willard says he fell in love with the Louisiana weather. Being from the state of Indiana, Willard was accustomed to bone-chilling winters. He made the decision that once his military service was over that he would be returning here to live. Well, that is exactly what he did. He then went to work for Dresser Industries where he retired after 34 years of employment.
Effie was born in Ball, LA and has lived in this area all of her life. She has always been a stay at home working mom. Effie has been totally involved in church life, holding many positions while a member of the Nazarene Church. After Effie and Willard's spouses passed away, they feel they we were brought together by the Lord. It was in the church where first became acquainted, and now they have been married for 30 years.
Effie and Willard like to travel and have had the privilege of going many places in their service for God. They have been on missions trips to Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Saint Lucia, Mexico and Africa. Later in their life they went to several states to work with the organization, RV's on a Mission. Willard likes listening to country music whereas Effie likes southern gospel. Willard's favorite hobby is gardening and Effie's is reading.
They report that they enjoy the presence of the Lord in Live Oak's worship time as led by Jordan and Fran. And they love Ken's bible teaching with all of its background information. Willard and Effie say they always pray for God's blessings and care to be upon our church family. "Jesus is Our Savior and coming King," they say. They report that they are so grateful for God's presence with them during all of life's ups and downs.
Live Oak is so blessed to have this wonderful couple as a part of its congregation.
